Our Journey reached a significant milestone in 2021 when we completed the construction phase and began full operational status with a total of 10,000 sqm of indoor sealed cultivation space with automated greenhouses roofs and 7,000 sqm of state-of-the-art post-harvest and service spaces, – making WeGROW’s facility in Lesotho the pride of African cannabis sector by offering wholesale medical cannabis products globally.

Located next to Maseru, Lesotho, the 60,000 square meter facility has 30,000 square meter of production space in a unique hybrid greenhouse environment and employs >200 members of the surrounding communities who all together export premium cannabis products globally.

WeGROW was planned and is running in accordance with GMP, CUMCS and GACP Guidelines. The facility uses quality by design methods to guarantee hygienic design, logical process flow, and a fully controlled processing atmosphere. An Environmental Management System (EMS) is in place to keep track of and alert when the facility’s temperature or humidity veers off-spec.
Before being exported to its ultimate destination, our cannabis products are manufactured as an Active Pharmaceutical Ingredient (API) and dried, cured, trimmed, and sized. The management of the processes is transparent and done in accordance with the export target country’s regulatory requirements .

We strive to standardize operational practices of Medical Cannabis Production in Lesotho using detailed documentation, in-depth hands-on employee training, and establishment of “best-practice” strategies to ensure a consistent, uniform cultivation model to facilitate the continuous production of quality flower. Lesotho has significant environmental and socio-economic advantages for the growing of high quality, contaminant-free medical grade cannabis
Lesotho introduced legislation to legalise the cultivation and use of medical cannabis in 2008 under the Lesotho, Drugs of Abuse Act and one of the first Southern African Countries to do this, spearheading the growth of this fast growing industry in Africa.
The country has a supportive Government; attractive fiscal terms; and good infrastructure: roads, equipment supply, power, telecoms, water, and security. Lesotho’s pristine natural environment is very well suited to growing medical cannabis. It has an abundance of contaminant-free soils, clean water and extensive sunshine year round.
Up to 80% of the 2.2 million-strong population of Lesotho is dependent on subsistence farming, a livelihood that has been made more unstable by frequent and persistent drought.
Commercial cannabis has the potential to change this. “Cannabis is going to set free this country,” says Dr. Emmanuel Letete, an economist in Lesotho’s Ministry of Development Planning. “Although people don’t see it yet.” Where the kingdom’s mountainous geography once meant that it missed out on big agribusiness opportunities, this time its altitude could be the key to its fortune.

Medical cannabis refers to cannabis or marijuana that is used for medical purposes, typically to relieve symptoms of certain medical conditions. The export of medical cannabis to global markets is necessary because not all countries have legalized medical cannabis, and those that have often have limited domestic production capabilities. Importing medical cannabis allows patients in these countries to access high quality medical cannabis products that they would not otherwise be able to access.
WeGROW’s Medical cannabis products that are exported include dried cannabis flower buds, cannabis extracts, and cannabis-based pharmaceutical bulk products. These products are used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including chronic pain, multiple sclerosis, and epilepsy.
Several countries in Europe import medical cannabis from WeGROW, including Germany, Portugal, and Israel in the middle east. These countries have established import frameworks to allow the import of medical cannabis products that have been authorized by regulatory authorities in each country.
WeGROW is the home to more than 150 families from the surrounding communities in Lesotho.
